Your Facebook ad campaign’s success will largely depend on whom you’re targeting. That’s why you need to know about the different Facebook audiences available to you. There are Saved Audiences, Lookalike Audiences, Custom Audiences, and audiences created by people that have interacted with your page or content before. By the end of this chapter, you’ll know what are the best Facebook ad audiences and how to create them. We’ll also talk about the Facebook Pixel that you’re going need for tracking your website visitors. How to Use the Welcome Post Feature in Facebook Groups
If a prospect has downloaded the white paper but hasn’t requested a demo, then you would want to advertise the demo. If they’ve seen the demo and haven’t signed up for a free trial, then that’s the message to send them next. Similar to establishing audiences based on the Time Lag report, create separate custom audiences and align the messaging with the way people have already interacted with your site and your brand.
In the future, we can expect even more great tools for video marketing from Facebook. They have already expanded into creative video tools with virtual reality devices like Oculus Rift, and have goals to become the top video marketing site on the Internet, surpassing YouTube. Video is one of the most powerful tools available to advertisers right now, as we’ll explore more in a later chapter of this book.
Let’s use one of my favorite Italian restaurant in Ekkamai, called La Tana. The marketing goal for this restaurant was to increase patronage during lunchtime (between 11-2pm). FB ads are perfect for restaurants. Because, let’s face it, everyone on Facebook likes to eat. When targeting your audience, you want to focus on your ideal or current customer(s).
How much should you pay for Facebook advertising? Is Facebook’s automatic or manual bidding better? How to set up your ad budgets in the Ads Manager? How To Get Your Facebook Ads Approved
The tricky part with Facebook is that it only lets you operate within predefined targeting options. You can, for example, target people who have visited your website within a defined period of time (the last 7 days, 30 days, etc.), however, there’s still no option to target repeat visitors who have been to your website several times but haven’t finished their purchase yet.
Group 2: People who click through the post-click landing page to the sales page but don’t submit a payment. These are people who liked the idea of your course but got spooked by the credit card field on the next page. The Facebook pixel on the checkout page will add these people to an audience as well. You can target them with a dynamic Facebook ad that attempts to draw them back to the checkout page. You know these people are further down in the funnel, so maybe a small discount or one-time-offer will push them over the edge to your “thank you” page.
Set out by creating as many custom audience buckets in Facebook as you can brainstorm and allow them to start populating. Not all of them will perform and some may take a long time to fill. You’ll have to make adjustments as you go along. Susan notes that the minimum number of people you can run a Facebook ad set to is 1000, so she often combines ad sets that are smaller than 1000 until she populates one that reaches the minimum. (Editor’s Note: The audio of this interview mis-quotes the minimum audience size as 200. This article reflects the correct minimum audience size.) UTM Tracking in Google Analytics | Lesson 13
What stands true, though, is that after a week of retargeting, you may want to stop focusing on immediate purchases and aim for longer-term relationships with your website’s visitors. That is, you should try to keep in touch with your potential customers until they’re ready to convert instead of trying to convince them to convert and then giving up when they don’t. $5-10 dollar a day is a feasible budget for most small or local business such a La Tana to get their feet wet in FB advertising. After you have gotten the right converting ad formula down, feel free to increase your budget an extra $5-10 dollars a day. Of course, the higher the budget, the greater your reach. I recently worked on a Facebook ad project for a supplement company. Their budget was a whopping $100 per day(estimated daily reach of 8,000-21,000 people). How to change your Facebook Page category
Facebook retargeting may be geared towards capturing those who have already visited your site, but this doesn’t mean you can’t still use the retargeting information to build brand awareness by reaching those who haven’t yet heard of you. Advertisers can create “lookalike” audiences based on the data from the Facebook Pixel to create ads geared towards new customers who match the profile of present customers.
